SQUID3 Space™ SiO₂ Coated Silver AlphaFEP is a high-performance flexible film radiator technology capable of withstanding atomic oxygen (AO) erosion in VLEO and LEO. An optically clear Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂) layer is coated on the top surface to protect the underlying FEP from reacting with AO.
Also known as Silver Teflon® or Ag/FEP, SQUID3's SiO₂ Coated Silver AlphaFEP tape is commonly implemented as a Flexible Optical Solar Reflector (FOSR) on the "ram-facing" side of the spacecraft. Deposition thickness of the AO protective layer is 65-130 nm.
From LEO small satellites to mega constellations, Silver AlphaFEP is optimized for bonding on wide-profiled structural panels. On-orbit degradation is well-characterized by NASA, ESA, and JAXA in flight literature. Silver AlphaFEP incorporates FEP film exclusively extruded from Teflon® FEP 100 resin.
Applications for SQUID3's SiO₂ Coated Silver AlphaFEP tapes
- Spacecraft Thermal Control
- Second Surface Mirrors
- VLEO missions
- Ram-side Radiators
