SQUID3’s ITO Coated Silver Teflon® FEP Tape is a conductive thermal control material engineered for spacecraft radiator applications where mitigation of differential charging and electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a design consideration. The material combines the proven thermo-optical performance of Ag/FEP with a transparent Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) conductive coating on the surface.
The ITO layer provides a dissipative surface that can help reduce charge accumulation on exposed dielectric surfaces when properly bonded to spacecraft electrical ground. This configuration is particularly beneficial for missions operating in charging-prone environments such as polar LEO, Sun-synchronous orbit (SSO), MEO, auroral-crossing trajectories, and other high-radiation plasma environments.
For spacecraft charging mitigation, the ITO layer should be intentionally electrically bonded to spacecraft ground. A floating conductive coating may provide limited charging mitigation benefits depending on the spacecraft electrical architecture.
