Case Study: Multi-Orbit Thermal Control For Servicing Vehicles

Mission At A Glance:

01

Company X is deploying a servicing vehicle to perform in-orbit rendezvous and refuel on numerous targets positioned in various orbital altitudes and inclinations

02

Sizing thermal components such as radiators and heaters proved to be a challenging task for the thermal engineers at Company X due to the lack of knowledge about every target and their orbit before launch

03

Company X was able to design a versatile servicing vehicle that is capable of navigating through various orbital inclinations without thermal constraints, thanks to SQUID3's dynamic thermal solution

Thermal Modeling and Simulation

Our thermal modeling and simulation in Thermal Desktop demonstrated that switching the thermal profile from dark to white as the spacecraft maneuvers from an orbit with an inclination of 0° to higher inclinations effectively maintains the average spacecraft temperature range
